Might be a specific case to us but we currently have a bunch of Looker Studio reports that track a bunch of different accounts we manage and the differentiator in a lot of them is the ‘Country/Territory’ field (we have a lot of distributors under the same campaign that use the same keywords for example but focus on a particular distributor per location).
These Looker Studio reports break often due to the GAds-Looker Studio integration so we were looking to switch to using our Piwik dataset and utilise the Piwik-Google Ads Integration.
However, it looks as if the ‘Country/Territory’ field isn’t part of the Piwik-Google Ads integration so we’re unable to use our existing reports with our Piwik dataset.
Is there any scope for bringing across additional fields as part of the integration or is there some blocker?
Unfortunately, our Google Ads integration doesn’t include the “Country/Territory” field. Have you considered using the built-in geolocation data in Piwik PRO? If you’re tracking this data, then you could use it in Looker Studio along with fields that are provided by Google Ads.
Yes we tried to use the built in Country field from the Piwik PRO data but when we filtered on this, Looker Studio was unable to grab those metrics.
So our example is to have a widget which brings in the ‘Impressions’ metric from the Google Ads integration and then filter it based on Country and Campaign Name.
Every time we try to do this, it fails.
I’ve also tried to replicate directly in Piwik and get the same issue:
Alright, that happens because we can’t combine GAds metrics with analytics dimensions that are not shared (country). Shared dimensions include: session entry URL, website name, keyword, device type and date.
The only way for this widget to work would be to use a metric from analytics, like sessions or visitors for example.
