Anonymous tracking vs. Google Ads conversions

On several sites we have PWP running as well as some tags to send conversions to Google Ads. We are exploring switching to anonymous tracking but my understanding is that we can’t because of these tags that track Google Ads conversions. Is this correct?

Hi! Anonymous tracking for non-consenting users can be turned on anytime, doesn’t matter what setup you have. The important thing is to make sure your tags are set up correctly. If the conversion tags require “conversion tracking” consent, then people who didn’t consent won’t trigger the tag.

Could you elaborate on what your setup looks like now? Do you have a consent banner?

Thank you for your reply @sararekowska. What I actually meant is how we can implement cookieless tracking? Is this even possible when Google Ads conversion tags are used?

You have the option to turn off visitor cookies for all visitors and only use session hash, but as long as you’re using a Piwik PRO consent manager or a different CMP there will be a ppms_privacy cookie that holds the information about consents.
