Export dashboard as a PDF 😱

I’m sorry for being so blunt, but the dashboards look really unprofessional when they are exported to PDF. I’ve tried all the different settings available when scheduling a report (orientation, visibility of certain elements), but the end result looks bad no matter which options I select.

Issues I encountered include:

  • Counters take up the whole row on the page, leaving oceans of white space around them.
  • Selected segment, sampling and date range show up for all widgets (even Text widgets!), which doesn’t make any sense since these are specific to the dashboard, not to each widget individually. I can hide them, but then the PDF will not show this information anywhere.
  • Table columns always share the same width, meaning that Page URL dimensions that contain long URLs wrap over multiple lines, wheareas metrics e.g. Page Views have loads of white space around them.
  • Line charts with more than one metric are not rendered at all in the PDF.

Honestly it would probably look much bettter if you took a full-page screenshot of the dashboard and export that screenshot to a PDF, it would solve many of the issues listed above.

@joao With our new export option it’s possible to save dashboard to PDF that preserves the dashboard layout.

Let me know whether it’s suitable for your needs.

Hi @Jarek,

Thank you for this update!

This is easier said than done, but I think there are a couple of improvements that would take this feature to the next level:

  1. Render the PDF with vector text: the rendered text is visibly pixelated (even at 100%), and you cannot select it or click any of the URLs in a table.
  2. Ability to choose the new layout when creating a scheduled report.

I am well aware that these are not simple cosmetic changes, but you did ask!

Thanks for the feedback!

  1. Sounds cool but requires much more effort so rather won’t be implemented soon.
  2. Will be implemented, don’t have the exact timeline yet. Watch our changelog for this update.
