Hi,

Here is my setup:

I am starting to use Piwik PRO, and I hope this issue resonates with Piwik PRO users !

  • Piwik PRO container is integrated into a GTM tag.
  • OneTrust CMP is used for consent management.
  • The Piwik PRO tag is triggered if consent is given, utilizing a data layer variable.

What I want to implement:

I would like to set up a hybrid measurement, meaning that the Piwik PRO tag would be called without consent using the GDPR-recommended configuration, and IF the user accepts cookies, the data collection settings would be expanded.

Has anyone implemented this setup?
Unless I’m mistaken, I haven’t seen any specific documentation on this subject.

Hi!

First of all, could you just confirm if you have the whole container implemented through GTM, or only the tracking code? Have you used one of our guides when implementing?

We do have a OneTrust integration that you can use: OneTrust integration | Piwik PRO help center.

The scenario you’re describing is possible, you would need to trigger the the Piwik PRO tag on every page view (no matter if there is consent or not), and also have this option turned on: “Collect anonymous data from non-consenting visitors”. You can find it in Administration > Site > Privacy > Consent settings. Without consent, the visitor will be anonymized, but once they accept, they are deanonymized (if the connection between OneTrust and Piwik PRO is correctly implemented).
