Google Ads Conversion Tracking difference between PPTM and GTM Implementation

We experienced quite a drop in conversion amount and value when we migrated the Google ads tag to PPTM. As this is quite unusual we setup an experiment where we are tracking Google Ads conversion through 2 different tags.
There is 6:1 ratio where GTM tracks 6x more conversion amount and value.

What we have implement so far to rule out set up issues

  • No consent required as we are located in Switzerland, ignoring DNT
  • Moved PPTM to to rule out the issue
  • Implemented Google Ads Remarketing Tag
  • Implemented Google Conset V2 with default granted
  • Made sure priorities are set up correctly for PPTM

Did anybody experience the same issue. If yes, how were you able to solve it ? Somehow the other tags seems to be working fine.

How did you set up the GAds Remarketing Tag? When does it trigger?

We found the issue. Basically, it seems like even though the order is specified correctly (Remarketing Tag is loaded before Conversion), depending on latency and loading time the Remarketing TAG was not loaded before the Custom JS Conversion TAG.

There is also some hint in the documentation that tags might finish loading time at different points

We made sure that the function is loaded by adding it again on the conversion JS Tag. The deviation is now minimal to the implementation of Google Tag Manager.
