Chrome Piwik Pro - Site Inspector isn't working

Hello all,

I’m trying to set up heatmaps and clickmaps but the site inspector is not working (screenshot attached below).

  • I’ve entirely turned off “Ask visitors for consent” for my website in Piwik Pro (under Administration > Site & apps > mywebsite > Privacy) on the first day so there is no way to give consent in the first place
  • I’ve installed all tags correctly (been getting data for weeks now via GTM custom HTML, and Piwik Pro tag manager debugger works fine).
  • Piwik Pro version is 17.5.4

How do I fix this?

Thanks in advance

Hi,
As far as I understand, for now there is no consent form on your website. If you want the heatmap to work you will need an analytics consent from the visitors and you will not get one with a consent form turned off.

Hi asinior, thanks for the reply. Yes there is no consent form for the website.

If you want the heatmap to work you will need an analytics consent from the visitors and you will not get one with a consent form turned off.

Just to confirm, heatmaps and clickmaps won’t work unless there is a consent form on the website. And as long as consent form is turned off, the site inspector extension will not work. Did I understand it correctly?

Well, it kind of also depends on what you have set up in the consent type for the tag because you can also set up that consent is not required in the tag settings just like in the picture below. Can you check what consent type setting you have set in your tag settings?

Also here are some useful articles on Heatmaps and the Site Inspector:

I’ve just checked the consent type setting for the heatmap & clickmap tag and it’s on “No consent in required” all this while, “Respect opt-out and DNT” is off and firing all the time; I remember choosing these settings when setting up the heatmap tag. That’s weird.

I have also just turned on “Ask visitors for consent” with a 30 minute cookie when no consent is given, ask only for countries under GDPR. Saved the settings and saw the “Updated” green popup on the top of the screen. Consent forms settings under Consent Manager is its default setting. (Consent will be turned off normally, just trying this now to test it out). The extension still doesn’t work.

I’m trying out the website after clearing cookies and also on incognito mode, the site inspector extension still says the same thing.

Any idea how else I can fix this?

Edit: Chrome is on the latest version since the last update came out.

Could please you share a URL to the website that you are referring to? You can leave it here under the thread or send it to me via private message.

Thanks for the quick reply, just messaged you.
