How do I manage multiple clients with the same native Looker Studio Connector 1.3.3?

I am probably doing sth very stupid wrong, so thanks for any help:

I have set up the new 1.3.3 Native Connector for Client A.
Now I want to create a Looker Studio report for Client B.

If I add Piwik Pro Connector 1.3.3 to the report for Client B, I see only sites from client A to show up:

On the previous page, I have the option to “revoke access” for this connector, but the popup sounds too scary to confirm…

“Any data sources and reports that use this connector will stop working once the connector is removed. You can add the connector back at any time.” => I don’t want the dashboards I built for Client A to stop working just so I can use the connector for Client B…

Hi @loldenburg,

Not at all :slight_smile: .

I guess this is a similar topic:

The verified/partner connector (compared to the previous unverified one) ties the data source to your Google account. Meaning 1 pair of credentials per 1 Google account.

We are currently working on a feature that will allow you to add other Piwik PRO accounts/instances to your Google account when you create the data source. If you’d like to test it before the release, I’d be happy to send you the developer version of the connector once we are done testing.

For now it’s best to use the 1.3.0 version for other client accounts.

Thanks @anthonybartczak . I think this is an important limitation and should be clearly mentioned in the connector documentation, as well as on the connector page in LS itself. I have lost a lot of time with this, and my time is usually paid by my clients and the cheaper Piwik Pro work is, the happier they are.

My use case is not urgent, so I will leave the other dashboards on the pre-native connector connectors for now and wait until the fix has arrived.

Very true. Sorry for the inconvenience.

@anthonybartczak,

While not saying it directly, are you suggesting that I use the same email address as my login for all Piwik Pro instances? Would that show the different instances for connection in Looker? (This is how Google Analytics functions). Currently, I use different email addresses for each instance (e.g., davidsculbertson+instance@myemail) but could use my primary email address for all of the instances.

@David_Culbertson I think this refers to the GOOGLE Account that you use for Looker Studio when creating the connector. One GOOGLE Account can only be tied to one Piwik Pro Account (and thus only one Piwik pro client because, as you say, you cannot use the same email address for multiple PP clients atm).

@loldenburg,

I’m seeing something very weird. Probably like you, I’ve got one gmail address that I for all Google products including Looker. I was able to connect on PP instance via the 1.3.3 data connector AND that instance doesn’t use my primary Gmail address! I can’t recall exactly how I did this.

The expected outcome is that you can use a single Google account to handle/store multiple sets of Piwik PRO API credentials (account name, client ID, client secret) to use with the Looker Studio connector.

So you’d have davidsculbertson@myemail.com Google account that stores 2 pairs of Piwik PRO API credentials for each instance (e.g. example1.piwik.pro and example2.piwik.pro). Or more than 2 if you decide to do so.

You will be able to add them (and also overwrite and delete) when creating or modifying the data source.

It won’t work as smooth as the Google Analytics connector, as it automatically returns the GA4 accounts you have access to - probably using a big authentication system that exists outside of GA, GTM etc.
